Florida Grand Opera presents La Traviata
|
From Nov 15 through Dec 6th, 2008
Florida Grand Opera opens its 68th season this November with a new production of Verdi’s La Traviata, directed by Bliss Hebert. Alternating in the role of Violetta Valéry are sopranos Eglise Gutiérrez and Ailyn Pérez. Tenor Stephen Costello makes his Florida Grand Opera debut as Alfredo alternating with Leonardo Capalbo. These performances take place at the Arsht Center for the Performing Arts from November 15th through 23rd, and at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts from December 4th through 6th, 2008.
La Traviata, based on the Alexandre Dumas play La Dame Aux Camellias, tells the story of Violetta Valéry, a courtesan who finds true love and is then forced to make a terrible sacrifice by an unforgiving society. Violetta Valéry is the most desired and captivating courtesan in the seductive Parisian demi-monde. Beautiful, charming and discreet, she fulfills the secret fantasies of Paris’s finest gentlemen but keeps her heart to herself. When at last she meets Alfredo and gives in to her feelings, Violetta learns that society has no place for a courtesan in love. You’ll be intoxicated by Verdi’s gorgeous music and by this new spectacular production designed by Allen Charles Klein.
