From Dec 3th through 20th, 2009
The show Migrations: Looking South Art is an outstanding selection of Central-American art under the theme of migrations. Curated by art critic and curator Rosina Cazali, the exhibition looks at the cultural complexities of contemporary migrations through the work of 13 Latin American artists.
Migrating (North) has become an essential part of the twenty century’s Latin American idiosyncrasy. Although mainly associated with economic disparities, truth is that motivations to leave your own country as to reside in another can be varied; ranging from extreme poverty and armed conflicts to political and ideological exclusion, or just for a good job opportunity or family reunification, being these two last ones the less common.
The exhibition includes artists who through their work, open a window to better understand a social context where migrating is the only hope for overcoming an extreme condition.
Artists on the exhibition are Ronald Morán, Donna Conlon, Patricia Belli, Grupo La Torana, Adán Valdecillo, Ángel Poyón Calí, Danny Zavaleta, Miguel Ángel Madrigal, Regina Galindo, Dalia Chévez, Lucía Madriz, Betsabé Romero and Ernesto Salmerón. Migrations: Looking South Art is organized by Centro Cultural Español in Miami, and is on view at The Moore Building in Miami’s Design District.
